INTERESTING WINDOW DISPLAY CUTLERS HARDWARE ENTERPRISE Coincident with the countrywide drive for recruits for the Home forces and las't week-end's territorial training manoeuvres in Whakatane a display of military equipment in, the show window of Messrs Cutlers Hardware Ltd., proved of grteat interest to the general public. The display illustrated the full uniform, equipment and fighting arms used bj r the territorial fortces, and comprised nothing that would not or could not be utilised by the young men who volunteer. Even, the officer's swords and medals would be available to the more ambitious men who seek a commission. The Vickcrts machine-gun, and thd two Lewis guns were each capable of firing from 600 to ,700 rounds per minute. These deadly weapons arc calculated to be the most effective! for defence, while the Hotchkiss gun also handled by an individual troopar is able to firte a similar number. The rifle shown also illustrated the rse of the cup_type grenade which can be fired from the barrel for enfilade or shotft range bombing purposes. .There was also a range-finder, and numerous details of field equipment which all military men will be fully conversant, with. -
Throughout Friday night and Saturday knots of young men gathered in front of the display, and there is: no doubt that it proved most effective in stimulating interest in rccffuiiting. The firm must be com. mendpd for the- enterprise it showed tn such a practical way*
