FAREWELL TO POPULAR MINISTER PRESENTATION BY PARISH, lONERS A farewell function in honour of ■two prominent Church wor'kers, the Rev and Mrs A. D. Horwell, of Edgccumbe, was given by the parishioners of the Rangitaiki Outfields Presbyterian Church last Friday even ing in conjunction with their annual meeting. The large assemblage was indica. live of the high esteem and respect in which the guests of honour were held by the community. Opportunity was taken to express the parishioners' thanks and appreciation for tho outstanding service rendered to the district both, by and Mrs Horwell during the past ten years ol their stay on the Rangitaiki. During all these years, Mr Horwell as Mod. erator of the parish, had supervised the ministerial and governmental activities of the church, and this supervision he had carried out with con-< Stant efficiency. Both Mr and Mrs Horwell had endeared themselves to the hearts of the people. Their at tractive personalities coupled with their fine sense of humour found ready response on the part of the and their deep earnestness and zeal for the things of God had been to many a source) of inspiration..

PRESENTATION. In recognition of the valuable services contributed towards ithe cliurch Mr J. Pattie, on behalf of the parishioners, presented the guests of Tionour with a cheque, and in doing 5Q expressed i'egret at losing two such popular workers of the church. Mi Pattie refered to the faithful ministry and willing assistance given v *<?t all times, bv Mr Horwell. As a true minister Mr Horwell had become a friend of the people and had consequently gained their confidence arid trust. Mrs Horwell also had given a great deal of her time and devested her efforts towards the spiritual welfare of the people. Tn concluding, Mr Pattie expressed the parishioners' best wishes to Mr and Mrs Horwell. I for their labours in their new sphere of work and the hope that succe:;.i would crown service. Mr Geo. Murray also referred in eulogistic terms concerning the un. tiring efforts to both Mr and Mrs Horwell, and in doing .so gave a very interesting summary regarding the development of the Rangitaiki Outfields Church since the arrival of Mr and Mrs Horwell ten years ago. Bouquets were presented to Mrs Horwell by Mrs Downie on behalf of the church by Mrs Read on behalf of the Bible Classes, and by Miss Ray Winters on behalf of the Sun- 1 <lav School. In replying Mr Horwell sincerely 1 thanked the parishioners for their 1 Sift of appreciation and expressed I the hope that they would continue c strengthening the church through ro_ j: operate loyalty and personal devo- a tion to the things of God. During the evening items were rendered by the following: Violin solo, Miss Joyce Lee; Russian Gopak dance Miss Tvy Mikkelson: recitation, Miss Elsie Martin; play, staged by Misses Annie, Joyce and Florence Mikkeisen and Margaret Mortenson.
