FUTURE BUSINESS CENTRE

EXPANSION TO KING STREET MR G. BRABANT'S CONTENTION That the King Street portion of the town was likely to become the future business section of Whakatane, was the contention put forward by Mr G. Brabant at the meeting of citizens held last Saturday even, ing in the County Chambers to discuss 'the East Coast Road question. Mr Brabant whose motion that the main road should not go through the business section lapsed for want of a seconder, said from the growth seen, already during 'the past years t end the intensification of the farming facilities at the back of the town, he anticipated Whakatane would be a very big cerftre in the future. The present business area, however was far too cramped—there was no room for expansion & when it became neces sary to find new building sites for shops, the proprietors would go to King Street where a start had been made already and where 'the residential section was much closer for shopping purposes. He followed un ;ih ; contention by stating that people realised this possibility aiul it was almost impossible to buy a section on t King Stfoct at the present tiriuj.
