WHAKATANE CLUB Next Saturday, July 29th, sees the commencement ol' the major event of the club's competitions, the three championships, Senior (up to 12 handicap) Intermediate (13.18 inclusive) and Junior (19 and over). For these events three qualifying rounds are to be played, the best two only to count, and eight competitors qualify in each grade. In conjunction herewith, the Captain's prize goes to tiie best net score for the best two of the three rounds in all grades. The draw for the first round is as follows:— Senior; Napier v Brebner, Crad. wick v Bridger R. Horrocks v SteqJ, Hedley v Carter, Roberts v A. Morpeth, Powdrell v Rangi, Goodyer v D. The second and third qualifying rounds will be x played on August 12 and 19 respectively.* In the Clarke Cup the finalists are Rangi and P. Horrocks. In the Reynolds Clip Newman plays the winner of S. Armstrong and Dawson in the final. In the Fortune Cup the semifinalists arc Rangi K. Morpeth, Herrold and Napier. In the (Founders' Cup the semi finalists are L. B. Smith, (Alexander and Butler), Patience and A. aiorpeth. All these ploy ers are requested to play their, next rounds at the week-ends. The bogey handicap on Saturday last was won by D. Allan with a good card of 1 down. At the week.end a visit was made to Whakatane by the Taneatua Club when the inclement weather interrupted play. It is hoped to reinstate this visit later in the season.
