Sir,-—l'm an Englishman married to a Scotswoman. And a finer woman never stepped. Since your publication of that outrageously infamous screed on 'The Unspeakable Scot 1 the good lady is unable to sleep. When first she read it she was ropeable, absolutely 'uproarious—a lion, rampant could not have excelled I take off my hat to 'Tullochgorm* (wife says "I ken weel wha he is'*) for tlie patriotic stand he takes. I am sure every Scot of the place en.l dorses what he says. I would like to tell him what 1 think as to who wrote it. The Scottish detail of what the writer speaks is very full and very* corrcct, so the wife says. I think there is a. traitor in the camp. 'Tullochgorm,'look among the Scots that haven't Mac to their name and you'll find your man. He libels Englishmen. I servcrf"*in the Imperial Army and didn't we admire the Scottish Regiments? ("Octa aye'' says the wife *'wi' their k : lts an* pipes an' a' an' a'—naething finer, at a' at a' : ). I have worked in mines and at bush-felling and once have I heard an Englishman speak pn unkind word about or to a Scot. The mad.brained writer pose? as an Englishman and that's where, as far 1 as I am concerned, the boot pinches. He must, fov sure have been suffering from temporary insanity and loss of memory. In fancy, he incomes a glaring gorilla, gets into a rage and in his madness turns dog on the land of his bitth. Its t'-ons, its glorious past, its people and ways he belittles and ridicules, Shame on him.. It's a dirty blrtl that dirties its own nest. My wife in her says ''For the sake o* his Avife I hope the puir deavil comes back tae his senses—there's waur than a mad man i' the hoosjp. '* Yours etc., ENGLISHMAN*.
