'SHOUTED' FOR NATIVES
SURFACEMAN FINED CAUSE OF ACCIDENTS A charge of supplying liquor to na_ "tives, the sccuel to cases heard at the last sitting in Whakatane, was brought against Colin Joseph Moller, before Mr E. L. Walton S.M. at the monthly sitting of the Whakatane Magistrate's Court on Wednesday. Constable Cummings said the offences took place on May 23. Moller was anxious to get some important work done, and he told the natives working on the road that if they did a good day's work he would ''snout" for them at the end of the day. He bought four bottles of beer and four bottles of wine. After drinking the liquor one lorry driver met with an accident, and several other natives were found lying in, a drunken state on the road. Moller gained nothing from the offence and was an honest, hard-working man. -He wa s fined £'2 with £l_lßs costs. . Kai'aitiana, one of the natives with the liquor, pleaded guilty to being found drunk in a pub. lie place and was convicted and ord_ cred to pay costs amounting to £1 9^.
