CLUB RUGBY

O: —-7— —. KEEN LOCAL GAMES TANEATUA DEFEATS PAROA j REVERSE FOR OLD BOYS The same enthusiasm which has atendcd the playing of club football since the commencement of the cur. rent season was again apparent last Saturday when the Whakatane Sub. Union continued its programme of competitional games in, both senior and junior departments. The surprise of the day came from Paroa's very definite defeat at the hands of Taneatua, which team has now drawn level in the championship points and will present a tough proposition in future matches. The winners attacked all the way and from their fitness and understanding indicated that they had not been behind in their weekly practising. Paroa were muffled ii their movements, being smothered for the most part by the fast-breaking opposition scrum. Poroporo defeated .Whakatane in no uncertain manner on No. 2 field. The City players went hard in the concluding stages to catch up but had given too much leeway in the first spell to have any chance of equal ising. The match gave Poroporo a good chance to play their usual open game to the best advantage. Both junior games were interest, ing though Poroporo v Old Boys drew the largest section of the spectators and furnished the most exciting dis. play. Star beat Paroa in a rather scrappy type of game which approach ed stalemate towards its conclusion.
