FESTIVE FIRE BRIGADE
CRASHES INTO WALL The condition of the Zeehan fire brigade after attending a smok«soeial was commented on in the Taxman ian, Supreme Court when Mr Jus_ tice Hutchins said that ''an amaz. ing state of affairs'' in the brigade had been discovered. Evidence had been given at Devonport, in an arson charge, that just before a fire occurred at Zeehan t members of the brigade, who had been attending a smoke social had drunk a substantial amount of liquor ''Then," added the judge, "there* was evidence that they ran from one side of the road to the other and crashed into the wall of a hotel while taking the red to the fire. It requires no word picture from me to convey an impression'of what might have happened if there had been a big fire at Zeehan that night." Two men charged with arson were acquitted.
