Dear Sir,

Letters to the Editor must be clearly written on one side of tbe paper.' Wnerc 'a. nom-deJplume is used the riaitie' of the writer must be enclosed for reference purposes only. MAIN HIGHWAY VIA HOSPITAL Sir, —In answer to ''Ratepayer" 1 have to .state that it won't make any -ydifference to me which way the high_ way takes through the Borough but when I say that if Stewart Street i<c laid down in concrete the patients in the hospital will not notice the traffic one iota I speak from experi_ cnce. I lived for a time on the main* highway near Auckland which has a beautiful concrete road apd the traf- ( fic (which is considerable) was not noticeable in the least. St Thomas' 4 Hospital in the middle of London is built right next to the (not two chains awav) and the trafthousands of vehicles a day, does not bother the patients. I'm afraid we ma,ke a tig fuss of very little. The Public Works engineers think the traffic won't worry the hospital and they are not far wrong. Yours etc., P. A. SHUNT. MAIN HIGHWAY Sir, —In commenting on the above ' subject in your last issue "The Rock" refers to Commerce Street. His argu_ ments go the same for the Strand. There was not one business man, (with the exception of Mr Prideaux) who had one word to say which way the Highway should come . through' the Borough so why mention Commerce Street. It was just as amusing (using = your correspondent's words) to Avatch the calm completely satisfied faces: of the Strand magnates. I think another meeting should ba called. Yours etc., KING STREET., :
