FOOTBALLERS TOIL

POLES FOR DOMAIN LIGHTS

A STRENUOUS AFTERNOON A small party of Whakatanc footballers had a strenuous time on Sunday in felling two lofty bluegums. and bringing them in to the Whakatanc Domain where they will be used to carry the lights for night training. The trees Avcre made available through the generosity of Mr Alex McLean, McLean's Road, lor whose kindness football supporters are deep ly grateful. It - was a ticklish job felling the trees into the space between two and great difficulty was experienced in loading them on to the lorry for transport to Whakatanc. This could not have been accomplished had Mr McLean not done the workers the further favour of lending his tractor. The poles AAcigh about 30cwt each, and it Avas not until after dark that they AA*cre unloaded on the Domain. They are about 40ft long, and should be most suitable for the purpose. No doubt anyone willing, to lend a hand Avill be welcome Avhen the lights come to hand and a day is chascn to erect the poles. It was originally intended to instal four lights, but for a beginning two Avill be used. The lamps arc of the modern mercury vapour type, and should prove most efficient Avhen mounted on such lofty poles.
