INVESTIGATING EDUCATION*
Mr and Mrs R. H. Walker, formerly of Opotiki (Mrs Walker was a Miss Va-nstone) and now of Te Kao Native School North Auckland, write to the BEACON from Carlisle, Scotland, where th:_y are at present staying in the course of a world tour. They plan to be away from New Zealand for over six months, and th~y have been studying the latest education methods. In the U.S.A. they visited many famous intermediate schoools, universities, junior high schools elementary, Indian and Negro schools. Front; New York they crossed to England *111 the Queen 'Maijy and then toured Europe in their own car, visiting .France, Switzerland, Luxemburg, Holland, Belgium and Germany. In Berlin they were the guests of the Foreign Department and were allowed to investigate education, and the "youth movement."' After returning to England they toured Britain. While in the Scottish Highlands they were guests atCorfe Castle. At Troon, in Ayrshire, they stayed for several days with Mr and Mrs Les who were old friends from New Zealand. Mr Bentley was at one time with Dalgety ana Co, Opotiki, and on his return to London was appointed to the King s Household as Controller of Suppl'cs at Buckingham Palace. Mr Bentlcy is now director of Troon Hot"!, one of the most luxurious in Scptl'indMr and Mrs* Walker fiope to see something of English schools before they return to New Zealand.
