RANGITAIKI AND WHAKATANE INTER-UNION COMPETITION -• i- An extremely handsome silver cup, modem which will be if -kl'iown as tiiO "Ton! Dunderdale Menu orial Cup'" was presented on Tucjt day evening bj' Mrs T. Dunderdale* u Te Teko, to representatives of the 1 executive of the Rangitaiki and Wha 3 ka.tane Rugby Sub-Unions. The cup I will be competed for annually focC 'tween the two sub.unions, and the . friendly rivalry will help to keep the 1 memory of Tom Dunderdale green - among the sports of this part of the [ Bay of Plenty. ; It was fitting that they should , have something to commemorate Mr , Dunderdalc's services to sport, said ; Mr F. J. Burt, president of the Raur gitaiki Union. It was indeed kind of . Mrs Dunderdale to present the handsome cup and the competition was one which would be of great interest locally. Mr W. S. Henderson, .Whakatane- ' Union president, endorsed Mr Burt's; remarks. He knew his footballers would feel- it 1 a j>ri'vilege !to compete for thq cup, ,/\yhiob:.wa.s in memory ; of'a gentleman who had given a great deal to sport. For Rangitaiki Maori footballers Mr T. Anderson said they would join in making the competition a success.-, He was sure it was a ; step to better* football. Mr F. Peebles agreed that the competition would be in the best interests of football. The unions had beenr rivals for years and he thought that Rangitaiki's greatest shock had come from Whakatane. The trophy woulil keep that friendly:'rivalry alive, antf commemorate one of the finest sports the district had seen. Mr H. Anderson said that iis long as the cup was played for Mr Dunder dale's memory would be alive. Mr I. Tunui spoke for the Maoris of Whakatane when, he said that Mr Dundertlale\s memory would not be forgotten. He had been a friend to both races and Whakatane was pleased to join with Rangitaiki in honouring him. On Mr Burt's motion, seconded by Mr Henderson a vote, of thanks to Mrs Dunderdale .-was passed., Mr Thomas replied for Mrs Dunderdale and thanked those who had mada kind reference to her late husband. She hoped the cup would do somc ; thing for sport. ... The cup is a particularly handsome silver trophy, standing about! IS inches high. It is of severely plain bu ! t dignified design, and its weight speaks for the quality of the metal of which it is composed. Those present at the meeting were Messrs ,F. J. Burt, W. S.
