BOROUGH AND RAIN
NO DAMAGE OR FLOODING
Exccpt for some surface water where gutters were blocked the borough has come through the rain very well, and new drains recently installed have .saved n number of areas which usually experience Hooding when an inch or two of rain falls in g. d*y. There was a certain amount of water on Soutar's Avenue, Whakatanc's model street, through the failure of the sump installed by the Housing Department to handle water from the side channels.
The river is high, and the borough foreman, Mr W. S. end his staff are watching anxiously at
full tide owing to the threat to the foundations of the new concretc wall round the centennial park at The Heads. Good progress is being made with this job, and yesterday no damage had been caused by the sea.
Mr H. Museu'tt's rain gauge recorded 1.70 inches of rain to 9 a.m.. yesterday, making the total fall for June 4.43 inches, and the total for the year 1*3.08 inches.
