DID YOU KNOW? THE ORDER OF THE BATH ' The title of the Order of the Bath, is derived from the custom of bathing r which used to be practised at the introduction of a knight. The bath was of white marble hung within and without with linen and cover, ed with a canopy of rich clothes and into it, after he had been undressed: the knight entered. Here he was attended by two knights who washed him from head to foot, and at the finish signed him with the sign of the cross on the left shoulder, fie was then carried wet from the bath by his esquires, and put into a plain bed without hangings, in which he remained until his bodv was diy.
