ANNUAL MEETING IN WHAKATANE HEADQUARTERS MOVE TO OPOTIKI The aunual meeting of the Bay of J, Plenty centre of the New Zealand Bowling Association was held in thd Borough Chambers, last Saturday. The delegates present .. were the outgoing president, Mr A. q W. Every, and Mr Law (Tauranga g South), Messrs MoFarlane and Woods (Tauranga), Messrs E. Corrah and A. W. Chambers Mr R. Ruddick (Taneatua), Mr S.. Teph. r] son (Opotiki Citizens), Messrs in and Portman (Rotorua) and the secretary, Mr W..W. P. Hall. ANNUAL REPORT. 1 Mr Every, in submitting the report and balance sheet, said that from t the latter it would be seen that the s centre ended the year with a credit s balance at the bank of £21 13s 7d t and an accumulated fund of £22 iGs t 7d the latter being an increase of £12 los 3d over that at the end of the 1 previous year. . The open tournament for the Francis Cup was held at Tauranga on the greens l of the Tauranga-. South Club, commencing on January 2. There was a gratifying entry of eighteen teams * for the event, eight of the ten clubs comprising the centre being represented, while - three ' teams from the Glen Massey, Waihi and Te Kuiti Clubs respectively also participated in the competition. The greens of c the Tauranga South Club were in ex. ' cellent condition and the weather proved very favourable. After a most A enjoyable three days play the Fran. * ci.s Cup was won bv a Tauranga Club team skipped by Mr C. F. Washer while another team from the same 5 club, skipped by Mr E. Tamblvn, < were the runners up. Mr J. Law. I the secretary of the Tauranga South Club, rendered very valuable assist- ; ance in the general arrangements. i FRANCIS CUP. In accordance with the custfbm J adopted by the centre the venue oi the Francis Cup competition will, from year to year, follow the rotation set out in the old conditions of that ; competition. It follows from this that the next competition in January 1940, Is scheduled to be played on the greens of the'Opotiki Citizens' Club, and that of 1941 on those of the Te Puke Club. The annual Champion of Champions and Executive Fours competi. , tioirs were held oh the greens of the Whakatane Club on thg 11th March. , Here again there was a very pleas, ing entry of representatives of nine of the clubs of the centre in both divisions of the competition. In, this case the winner of the champions competition and thereby the holder of the John Reid Cup, proved to be Mr A. Ba,rtlctt of the Tauranga South Club, while the Executive Fours event was won by a team representing the Whakatane Club, skipped by Mr C. W. Loane. Owing to the absence of the secretary of the centre on holiday, Mr A. W. Chambers, Secretary of the Whakatane Club ? kindly attended to all arrangements in connection with the meeting. During the year the executive arranged for a visit of a party of bowlers and ladies to the Taranaki centre. The party consisted of 32 bowlers, including the president, accompanied by 12 ladies. They left our district on March 19 and spent a most enjoyable week in the Taranaki centre, playing numerous matches against clubs in that centre. ! On all hands they received the most boundless hospitality and welcome and tire whole trip proved most enjoyable to all those who took part irtiit : Ail the organisation of and": arrangements for the trip were, at the re. quest of the executive, carried out by Mr J. Law ? of the Tauranga South Club. QUEENSLAND. BOWLERS On the 2nd February they entertained a party of* Queensland bowlers, resulting in an enjoyable match, on the Rotorua greens, between teams representing the executive and six clubs and a similar number of Queensland players. During the year the Executive putf '•hased TOO badges for the use of the centre. These badges were largely distributed in the Taranaki district ? by members. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers which followed resulted in the choice of Mi* Jephson (Opotiki Citizens) as president, with Mr C. Tabb (Opotiki) as vice-president.
