HEADS PARK

PINE TREES CUT DOWN

The reason, for the removal of sour.: pine trees at the Centennial Park rv. the Heads was sought by Cr. G. S. Armstrong at Monday night's meet, ing of the Whakatane Borough Council. It was explained that the filling which was to be spread on the aiea would have come to such a height on their trunks that their removal wo-; necessary. Cr W. Sullivan said the "Works Committee had gone into the question of whether the trees should be left. It was thought better to remove them. Ngalo and Pohutukawfi trees would be planted and when this plantation was established a phvor two bobbing up among it would look odd. It was a loss at the present stag? but once the new plantation was in the area would be all the better for their removal.
