POACHER CAUGHT AT KAIMAI FINED IN TAURANGA COURT A somewhat unusual, case cam" before Mr M L. Walton, S. M., at Hie sitting of the Court at Tauranga when on the information of Cha,l.-s Wade, a resident of Te Poi nam- ■? Ed Wiiliam John Richards, was charged with Idling a brown, trout by shooting it with a rifle. Mr A. Jamieson, appeared for the Tauranga Acclimatisation Society and called Charles C. Wade, a ranger who stated that on April 2 he was on his property above the Rualuhi Blidge at Kaimr-i, when lie observed two men close to the river. One of !h: men. who carried a r<ifle, raised It and fired. The other man then descended to the river and picked up a foil, .which had been shot. Later witness took possession of that fish, and one of the men, William John Richards, admitted having shot it. When first questioned he gave his name as Richie. Mr Jamieson said he was not pressing for a,heavy penalty. Richards, who faded to appear was fined £1 and costs 6s.
