• O ; INSTITUTE MEETING (Beacon Correspondent) There was a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Waimana.Nukuhou branch'of the Women's Institute. The weather wa> rain falling most of the afternoon, but it did not .detain members from attending the meeting Mrs H. Marr, a , presided, and Mrs E. Wylde read the minutes of the previous meeting. The correspondence was dealt with. THE BIRTHDAY Arrangements wore made for thr. birthday, which is to be held on the 2nd in the afternoon on the hall as usual, and sister institutes are being invited. Mrs Jerram is kindly donating the ingredients for a binthday cake, and Mrs Eagle is making and icing the cake. All members are asked to bring a plate to hslu with the tea. Mrs Marra, welcomed Mrs Wylde Snr., Mrs Hewitt and Mrs W. Wardlaw to the meeting, as they have been absent for sometime owing to a,nd Mrs Ward law was away in England for several months. ENTERTAINMENT Readings were given by Mrs Wylde and Mrs Mitchell, and Mrs Daviea sang most sweetly the songs ''When I Come Home'' and "Keep on Hopin" A humorous sketch, entitled ''Much a'do About Nothing," was well pre. sented by Mrs Mitchell and Mrs J. Addison. Members of the institute supplied the entertainment at the Whakatane Institute meeting last Tuesday. Mrs Jerram congratulated Mrs Marr.t on the way she conducted the meeting at Whakatane. The competitions for the afternoon were: Vase of* Winter Decorations, Mrs Davies 1, Mrs Mitchell 2 > Mrs F. Bell 3. Knitted Bed Socks: Mrs Wardlaw l,.Mrs Stevenson 2, Miss Fleming 3." Best Flower, 9 entries: Mrs Jerram (Gamelia) 1, Mrs C. Wylde (Arum Lily) 2 ? Miss Fleming (Iceland Poppy) 3. The hostesses. Mrs Davies, M~s Jerram, Mrs Kneebone and Miss Svansbury, served a much enjoyed afternoon tea, and the singing of the National Anthem closed a pleasant gathering. PERSONAL Mr and Mrs T. WaiI mana, are visiting Auckland. Mr and Mrs J. D. Waullaw, Waimana, have returned from a visit to> Auckland. Mr and Mrs L. Macdonakl, Auckland, paid a visit to Nukuhou recently.
