RUGBY RECORDS
(To the Editor) Sir, —Kindly allow me a few lines in your paper to express my amazement, and to correct a wrong state, ment made by 4 'Punt" in his big write up over Matata's five-year-old record I ask "Punt"' to think back over a period of three years r when the Awaken Seniors \vent through the first round of the Rangitaiki competition (playing good football), without a defeat. Awakeri (Len Luke's Honeymead Boys as they were known) lash- -4 ed Matata to the tune of 17-3. Awakeri were ably led in the forwards by Chas Wickham and in the backs by C. Jones. The game was played at Awakeri under most perfect conditions. An unfortunate accident occurred in the first half E. Howell going oil with a fra.fiurod collarbone. Too bad this game interferes with; Matata's record but perhaps ''Punt 9 * forgot that there was such a teams: as Awakeri Seniors until 12 monthsr ago. The next occasion these teams met, Matata were lucky to beat them in the closing stages, by 12.11. Th» m - Awakeri team on the victorious oc- ( casion were C. Wickham, A. Watson, R % T.. and P. Melville, D. and G. Jones, Kirkbride, R. Heard, R- . Rae„ A. SShayw y M. Davies, H. Luke C. Neilson, A. Oppert. Thanking you, I hope this comes under "Punt's'' noticeAN OLD AWAKERI SENIOR. (The above letter has been referral to our feature writer {, Punt'' wha will answer in due course. Ed).
