WAIRERE WATERFALL After months of inactivity, precoded by months in which it merely trickled, Whakatane has a waterfall again. Swollen by the heavy rain the Wairere stream is rushing over the cliff at the back of the town with great vim. "ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER . A man in a Christchureh tearooms had an embarrassing few minutes at luncheon on Monday. H ; s companion an ex.army officer, was evidently de- ' scribing his experiences in battle. ■ for wilh a wealth of gesture he was ! illustrating his story. The culmination came when the officer got down on the and with an imaginary weapon began to '''pick-off'' his foes. For several minutes h ; s companion was acutely aware of the concentrated gaze of everyone in the room. DIS PI CABLE THEFT A visiting footballer last SaUu'dav was the victim of a particularly mean and dispicable theft when a wristlet watch and a sum of monev was stolen from his clothes while I> 4 ' was engaged in playing football. Sev. era] other players complain of having lost money in the same way. This is surely another strong argument in favour of a properly ecpiipped changing shed on the grounds. A WAY TO FREEDOM [ Unusual circumstances marked the 'loss of a racing whippet just north of Ashburton on Saturday afternoon by a Christchurcli man who was transporting a team of whippets from Greymouth to Dunedin. While the other dogs were being carried in the car, one was locked in a box on the luggage grid. When the loss of tin; dog was first noticed some distance north of Ashburton, it was found that the end of the which was apparently made of a plaster board, had been bitten through and the dog had forced its way to freedom. The \shburton police are trying to trao the dog, which is reported to be of considerable value. Lose fat without discomfort —build 'lealth the Bonkora way. Pleasant. ••\fc. Visit F. G.
