MATCH AT RUATOKI WHAKATANE'S GOOD WIN Whakatane journeyed to Ruatoki to play the Ruatoki football team on Saturday. A very even match was anticipated as both teams have not won previously. A fast ? even and open game transpired as the scores indicate Whakatane 19 Ruatoki 14. Whakatane had the advantage in the first half, backs combining well in passing lushes, and Best leading the forwards in loose play, making openings. Eleven points were scored in the first half to Ruatoki's converted try five points. In the second half Whakatane again pressed Ruatoki and scored eight points. From this stage on Ruatoki woke up and forced Whakatane scoring nine points ; making the score Whakatane !')_ Ruatoki 1-1. With five minuses to go Ruatoki was pressing mother forward rush to Wbakatarie's goal line and nearly scored again but the Blues forced and almost immediately the whistle blew for time. Mr F. Peebles was referee.
