MOTORIST SPEAKS
(To the Editor) Sir, - While by no means defending the inconsiderate motorist who dashes wildly over pedestrian, crossings I could not let your sub-leader of to-day's date, pass without voicing a, protest on behalf of the considerate motorist at the inordinate number of inconsiderate or foolish pedestrians in tliis town who non_chalan;t]y or drunkenly duck and dive between pairked cars and at all angles, gaits and speeds across th" Strand, quite regardless of the inoffensive motorist, and apparently quite oblivious of the fact that pedestrian crossings are provided for their safety. These conditions are flagrant.' ly noticeable in this town particularly on Friday evenings. Yours LONG-SUFFERING MOTUiITST ! (While holding the utmost regard for the arguments put forward by our correspondent with respect to certain types of pedestrians, the objective in last Monday's leader was to safeguard the innocent lives of children and others for whom the pedestrian crossings were created. Viewed broadly is it not more encumbent on the motorist to keep a sharp lookout when entering a crowd ed business area, than to expect a sense of regulation responsibility to be shown, by a crowd composed of shoppers of all ages, with a sprinkling of those mentioned by the writer above. Ed).
