o EASY-GOING CREDITORS The adjourned meeting of creditors of W. Carmiehael, saddler, called by the Official Assignee, Mr A. W. Watters, for Tuesday in the Whakatane Courthouse lapsed again for want of a quorum. A RECORD KUMAR A Mr J. Lawson of Paron, has succeeded in raising an outsize in kuniaras, the specimen in his possession measuring a good twelve inches in length, and weighing lOlbs. Mr Lawson states that as far as he is able to ascertain the vegetable is the largest ever grown on the plains. LOW FLYING AEROPLANE The service plane that runs the regular trip from on alternate mornings, provided the residents of Ohope Beach with a regular thrill yesterday morning when it Mew low over the settlement. Against the heavy black clouds that threatened rain from the South, the -plane 'made an impressive picture as it traversed the length of the beach and passed round the bluff. SHEEP DOG TRIALS The public are reminded that the Whakatane District Sheep Dog Trials commenced yesterday at Mr Roberts' Farm, Taneatua Road, and they are invited to atend People'?: Day today.. Heading and yarding events will be held, compct toirs being present from Opotiki, Putaruru and East Coast districts and an excellent programme has been arrang-t ed. Admission to the ground is free and a luncheon booth will be available to the public. SOCIAL SECURITY Hospitals in which maternity benefits are available under the Social Security Act include the Whakatane Hospital and the Rotorua Hosoital the Te Puke Hospital.. >\lis ■- E. E. W. F. Cole, both of Whakatane. COMPETITION FOR CHILDREN A popular competition in connection with the forthcoming Bay of Plenty Winter Show is dedicated to children under Social Security age. Twelve of the largest towns in .the Bay of Plenty (exclusive of Rotorua) have been selected for a jumbled name competition. There are eight Tines of letters and from this mass the towns must be selected and work, ed out. Details are to be seen in the schedule of classes now released. REPRESENTATIVE RUGBY Arrangements for a representative match between the Opotiki senior Representative team and the Whakatane fifteen have been finalised, the match to take place on King's Birthday June sth, at the Whakatane Domain, commencing at 2.30. WHAKATANE RUGBY CLUB Members of the Whakatane Club are advised that the weekly practice will be held in the Winter Show Buildings to-night, and not Thursday night as is usual. . RAIN THREATENING Though one of the most infallible signs of approaching stormy weather was to be observed yesterday ? in the flight of the galls inland, the threatening rain failed to develop, and another fine day followed the bright procession. v
