Dear Sir,

Letters to the Editor must be clearly written on one side of the paper. Where a nom-de.plume is used the name of the writer must be enclosed for reference purposes only. | THE CHILDREN'S PLAYING AREA j To the Editor. j Dear Sir, —Would you kindly afford mc space to say a word or t vo with j reference to the state of the children's playing area. Visiting the ground recently I was surprised to note the neglected state of the lawns or are they merely' paddocks. The playing amenities are in themselves perfectly alright. The swings and the slides etc. } are worthy of any town and I saw a number of children making the best of them. Hut is scarcely the place where a mother 1 can take her children and make a picnic. The grass is coarse and long. In many places the surface has been lifted exposing the sand which blows in all directions and is most unpleasant. The place has a geneial air of neglect and abandon which is scarce, ly a good advertisement for the town. As I sec it Sir, for the sake of a few pounds to lay the lawns oat and keep them regularly clipped and trimmed this little recreation spot could be made attractive 'and beautiful. I trust our city fathers \vill take thi s up and give the grounds more attention in future. Yours etc.. PARENT.
