MARAETOTARA DRAIN
FURTHER PORTION TO BE
CLEANED
The borough foreman., Mr W. S. Henderson;, was authorised tp clean a further portion of the-Maraetotara Drain by the Whakatane Borough, Council at its meeting on Monday night. -Mr Henderson said he understood Mr A. Allan had approached counci'L lors to see whether the cleaning of: the Maraetotara Drain could go a further four or five chains past the concrete bridge. Cr A. Hall said there were a few slips and the drain should be cleaned out. The Mayor said Mr Allan ."-till owed £10 as a contribution to the bridge. If he met this it would enable them to do the job. Cr W. Sullivan thought the property owner had had a good deal and should carry out liis obligations.. At the same time there would :be flooding if the drain was not cleaned. He thought tha't libr the benefit of Allan dale it should be done.' Mr Henderson estimated that would do the job. It was decided to do the work.
