NO FURTHER GRANTS
"The county council will contribute nothing to any celebrations," said the Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry .at Monday's meeting of the Whakatane Borough (Council when the question of the centennial celebrations was discussed. The county was making a contribution to the centennial park and was also supporting the Wellington exhibition, and it was not ready tomake a further grant. This was the borough's position top. The borough and the county would help in every way possib'> other than finding further funds, said the May_ or.' ' The Citizens* Committee talked of getting a paid organiser, but this would be very expensive.
