INTEREST TO CLUB MEMBERS

J The executive of the Bay of Plenty District Pig Council is again, supporting the "Tomoana"' baeoner conu petition for 1939, entries for whicln close on May 31 with the district supervisor, Mr J. R. Keen berg, Whj* katane and for which £50 in prizes is offered. An entry may collect npi to £19 in first prizes, and second prizes may total £13. Mr Reenberg told the BEACON that the competition is open to all pig club members in the district and that each member is allowed to ma,lie? two free entries. The pigs entered must have been from 501bs to fiOlbs live weight in April. Nine pigs may be entered in the first instance, and from these the best six are to be firi_ ally chosen, and sent to the Westfield works in one consignment not later; than November 15, 1939. They wilß be paid for by \V. and R. Fletcher. Ltd. at .the ruling schedule prices at the time of killing. Judging. Judging will be done by the Dei partment of Agriculture in tion, with the Meat Board a.nd maximum marks be given to carcases weighing from 120 to IGOlbs. A dition' of the entry is that not fesS than half a pound of ''Tomoana" meals should be fed lo each pig ai day. Mr Reenberg said that since the Bay of Plenty! is at the distinct disadvantage of not having killing works of its own. it was felt that this competition afforded an excellent opportunity which farmers would be foolish to let slip. Field Day.
