The Theatres
REGENT
A distinguished cast is one of the many interesting aspeet s of Alexander Korda's technicolour production, "The Drum,'' showing Wednesday and Thursday at the Regent Theatre. For this fact we have to thank 7m\. tan Korda, brother of Alexander and director of the film, who casts all his parts to perfection. Sabu, talented Indian lad who made his debut in "Elephant Boy,'' has the leading roie as the j r outhful prince of an Indian state. It is diffic\lt to realise that two years ago Sabu was a poor, unschooled orphan roaming around the stables of Mysore and existing on a daily handful of rice. His one ambition was to become a mahout like l\is father before him. Roger Livesey plays the part of Captain Carruthers an officer of a British frontier garrison. His quiet matter.of.fact manner of acting fits the part perfectly and places him high on the list of actors who deserve honour. Another personality well worth w ait chin gin' The Drum" 1 is Ronald Adam, one of Loudon's leading stage personalities. This marks his first screen appearance. He plays a notorious gun-run-ner who is training the native tribes in the use of smuggled firearms.
''The Drum," which is released by United Artists, is a thrilling dramatisation of life on the North-West Frontier of India and was adapted from a story written, by the popular author A. E. W. Mason. Other wellknown actors who fill leading role.*? are Raymond Massey, Valerie Hob. son and-Desmond Tester.
