THE ENGINKER'S REPORT SUMMARY FOR MONTH At the last meeting of the Whakatane County Council the engineer, Mr C. H. Brebner, reported as follows on works done during the month: Bridge Repairs: The Raroa Road bridge decking has been repaired. Railings which were broken on a bridge on Railway Road East have been repaired while the Ruatcki bridge lias been cleared of driftwood. Repairs to decking on bridges on Powell's and Rivcrslci.Ot akin roads have also been carried out. Bridge Construction; The construction of a new bridge on Johnson's Road has been commenced. A small sill brhlge on the Ohope Beach Road has been reconstructed. The aproaches to Newton's Bridge have been completed and are being metalled. The construction of a reinforced concrete culvert on Hedges Road has also been commenced. The hardwood orders for the reconstruction of Rcid's Drain Bridge, Me. Lean's Road, Downard's Road bridge and Awaiti bridge, Otakiri Soldiers' Road, have come to hand. Culverts: The following culverts have been installed during the past month: Edgecumbe Township Drainage, Te Teko-Galatea, Boss Road, Eastern Boundary, Station Road, Western Drain, Railway East, McLean's, Awakeri-Te Teko, East Bank South, East Bank North, Millers'. Road Repairs: Patching with rock has been carried out on Railway Road East and Station Road. The cutting of scrub on Stanley Track has been continued. Road-Improvements: The widening and straightening of sections of Ross Road and portions of the WaichauGalatea Road is being continued. The cutting back of a dangerous corner on the Te Teko.Galatca Poad has been continued during the past month. Ihe construction of Kirkbride's lload deviation has been commenced. The construction of a concrete footpath to the new Waimana Hall has been completed. The construction of a concrete kerb and channel at the Edgecumbe township has been completed, while further improvement work in this vieinitv is in hand. The reformation of the Minginui Road has been, continued during the past month good progress having been made. Further ■ sections of this road have been surveyed . (Trader: The Thornton-Edgecumoo Road has been graded. The gran ma of Gow's, ((reig's, Robing and East Bank Roads is being carried out. Mi tailing Contracts: The Ros.; Road and Wainui Road metalling conf' oets have been completed during the past month., The metalling cf BriUht's lload, Thornton Road and Bell's Road is in hand. ' Miscellaneous: FaJlen trees which have been blocking the Waioho stream and bypass Railway Road have been removed. The fence on the Otarawivere track has been repair, ed where necessary while the watcitables have been cleaned out. The cost, of widening Ruddier s Road would be £250. This would include metalling. Tunanui Hill widening and protecting, also metalling, would cost £400. The cost of sealing the Waimana township for a distance of 1(5 chains would be £478 including regrading. The cost of easing the corners on the junction ot the tion Road and Railway Road FA> would be £22(5 and re-aligning the road to cut out the next bnd corner at the station entrance would cost an additional £440. The abov- fi{Jiir-s include all costs and council's *bate would be one quarter of the total.
