O TELEPHONE IMPROVEMENT EDGECUMBE AND TANEATUA RAILWAY STATIONS Businessmen and farmers will breathe more freely in the future as the result of work which the Post I Office has been instructed to put in . hand. It involves improvements to the telephone service between, the j exchange and the Edgecumbe ralli way station, which has long been r known as the worst number in Vhe book, and about as difficult to get ; when the subscriber is in a hurry as a collect call, to say, Stalin in, the Kremlin at Moscow. Also scheduled for improvement is the connection with the Taneatua station. The original intention was for the Edgdcumbe and Taneatua stations to be connected on separate direct lines to Whakatane, but instructions have now been received in ■ Whakatane that these two stations are to be connected on Jthe one line. The work should be completed in the course of the next few weeks, - 4
