HOLDING THE FORT

The persistent cry for the reappearance of the local newspaper in Whakatane after the suspension of the 'Press' two months ago, has actuated the proprietors of the Beacon to meet the public demand, by releasing a paper with an absolute minimum delay. Thus after less than two weeks following registration as a paper the Beacon has made its appearance. It is the objective of the proprietors to completely renovate and overhaul the existing plant, and make many important replacements, laying the foundations for the gradual building up of one of the most completely equipped printing establishments in the South of Auckland. To do this means, the exercise of care, study and investigation New machinery must be purchased entailing heavy financial outlay, readjustment of system, and reorganisation of staff. The institution of the tri-weekly service is also an important move involving new methods of production, delivery and, control. In striving to meet a popular demand, our readers are asked to bear with us a little, in the guaranteed production of a pa,per that for printing, layout, classification and interest will be second to none in any town of similar size and importance. — f- —. —•
