A GRIEVANCE.
TO THE EDITOB. SlB — Knowing your great desire to reform abuses in this district, I wish to lay before your notice the following facts, with the view of drawing the attention of the proper autho* rities to have these abuses redressed :— A respectable storekeeper in your town considered it necessary to have a summons issued against one of our principal settlers for the value of some empties which he (the settler) refused to pay for. Down comes one of the A.C. Force armed with the important document, with £1 • 18s costs, with which our unfortunate settler is in addition mulcted. Vub'luspectdr Carlyon and a party of Constabulary are resident at Katikati, and it is their duty to serve such summonses, and thus abate the very serious expenses with which the Katikuti eel tiers are now mulcted. I trust the authorities in 'I aurnnga will be obliged to disgorge the exorbitant sums which they have unlawfully enforced. — I am, &c, A Katikati Settieb. "October 10, \%1 6.
