Muriay-Aynesly, Beid, Powen, Reader Wood; Hislopj and Rollegton opposed any. increase in the honorarium, and Av'easrs Pyke, Stout;, Kelly, Woolcock, and Tribe spoke in suppo.tof it. The motion' was carried on a division by 30 <o 25. The business was very unimportant yeßterday. A- discussion on Mr Basting's motion that Members of the Assembly should have free passes-on all Government railways lasted some time. Mr Stafford, who opposed tbe proposal, tried to ridicule it by moving that free paßsts by steamer and ooacb, and free board and lodping at hotels should also be given to members desirous of seeing tbe colony. Mr Bees made a violent attack on Mr Stafford for this. Ultimately the original motion was carried on a division by 38 to 21. The question of honorarium was shelved by the Speaker being moved out of the oh air. Ihe Law Practitioner's Act Amendment Bill gave riae to considerable discussion in Committee, and several amendments were made and divisions taken. The Premier gave notice for today of another Imprest Supply Bill. To-day, the Committee on the Californian Mail Service Oontraot brought up a report that the contract be modified in tbe following directions : — " That the lino should be a oirect one from Honolulu to Sydney, calling at the Bay of Islands or Auckland j that the service be performed by ten-knot boata approved by Government ; and that the contribution of New Zealand to the subsidy be reduced by £10,000 per annum." The Committee also recommend that the offer of Mr Cunningham to pay £10,000 in satisfaction of claims under the Hall- Forbes contract be accepted. Mr Whi taker moved that the report be printed, which was agreed to, and it was resolved to take the report into consideration next sitting day.

A meeting of the Dunedin members passed a resolution to make Otago one county, with a Council of 17 members.
