The Intertribal Disputes.
(tfßoir OUB OWN COBBESPONDENT.) Maketu, Tuesday afternoon. A reliable telegram, was received here last night from Ohinemutu, stating that both, sides had taken up arms, i.e., Ngatiwhakaue and Ngatirang-i---wewehi, but that they had. agreed' that their claims should- be ' investigated, and at the same time, insisted that Marsh should leave Taumataherea. Marsh's present opponent is , Temuera te Amohau, Taiapo Te "Waiatua having subsided. Mr Brabant left here yesterday morning, probably with a view of enquiring into this "raruraru" and trouble. From another source,, I hear 1 that Taumataherea is full of Ngatirangwewehi, and Tapuika fully armed and ready for the fray, having brought down their arms" during the night from Te Awahou. Rangiwewehi being, a small tribe,, it is presumed that they have some strong backers. Ohinemutu, Tuesday night. (from: a correspondent) Wi Marsh of Ngatirangiwewehi has, for sometime passed, been building upon arid farming a piece of land on the TJtuhina Creek, Ohinemutu. The Ngatiwhakaue sent him word to clear out. Marsh refused, as he claims the land. Ngatiwhakaue then called a meeting, at which they agreed that the matter should be left to Marsh and Pokai to settle between themselves. Subsequently Pokai appointed Te Eetui as his mouthpiece. Te Eetui not being able to hold his own with Marsh; he left the field, threatening the latter. Ngatiwhakaue then sent Marsh word that they would burn down the house in dispute. Marsh's people, fully armed, assembled quietly on Friday night last, and took their quarters at Taumataherea, Xixallenging the Ngatiwhakaue. A fight appeared inevitable. Mr Hamlin, R. M., after much exertion, succeeded in calming both parties. Marsh from, the first wished matters to be settled by the Land Court- Mr Commissioner Brabant holds a Court to-morrow on the subject. All is perfectly tranquil again at present. (FEOM ANOTHER CORRESPONDENT.) Eotortja, Tuesday. Wi Maihi and Taiapo had disputed about a small piece of land. Their tribes, Ngatirangiwewehi and Ngatiwhakaue took the matter up warmly, and threatened' to fight. All is again quiet now,, and' the matter is to be settled by arbitration. Later Intelligence.
