LIFE BTJOYB, &C, FOB THE WHABF. I also recommend that ends of the Tbe railed in with shifting rails. 1 also recommend that the light be shifted from the present position, either on the corner where the steps are or on the opposite corner. — Ihave^&c.,. HV Masks, Harbour-Master. To- the ©Uairinan of the Town Board, North Tauranga,, It was decided that the-position of the Limp should be altered as the Harbormaster should direct ; that stringers & by 6 inches should be* fixed round the edge of the T, and that two life-buoys- should be purchased,, to be hung on the wharf. It was not considered advisable to put up shifting rails round the edge of the T, and the Harbor would not allow of a permanent railing being fixed.. " ' willow " BSSssßtfT and w,n akf street CULTPERT. The Secretary was directed to. Gommunicate with the Engineer relative to placing a culvert at the junction of Wharf and Willow-streets. EXTENSION 0% THE" WHARF. A letter from Mr GK A. Douglas, relative to the extension of the wharf was read to the Board. Tauranga, sth April, 1876. Dear Sir, — Following up my suggestions about the wharf, I think it will be generally admitted that) increased accommodation is sure to be required 1 oonsequent on the trade which the new efceam service is certain to bring to tbis port. To supply the want it is necessary in my opinion to widen the present wharf so that another line of rails can be laid. To extend the T into deeper water by widening it,, and also to lengthen it so that three vessels can lie alongside at the same time. This would meet all requirements for |some time to come, and' would cost say five or six hundred pounds, which amount could be borrowed on the seourity of the wharf, which now pays, if I mistake not, fifty pounds a year. Bemembering that the wharf was constructed by the Provincial Government, and that the board has already had & considerable income from it, 1 cannot imagine that it will object to provide the needful accommodation in the way mdi* cated,, unless prepared to show a better method £e£ accompliaiiog the same. — I am, Sir, Gbo. A. DouglasSi.. Gk Norris-, Esq. Gkainman, Town Board, Tauranga-. gt- The Chairman quite agreed with the opinion expressed by Mr Douglas that meseaaed accommodation at the wharf was necessaiy,. and requested the members to consider the matter with a view to definitely discussing the subject at the next meeting. The Board then adjourned.
