TO THE EDITOR.

Sib, — 1 attended the official declaration of> the poll to-day, and was much impressed with.' the solemnity of the proceedings, particularly by the protest made by Mr Norris against -• the legality of the election. I cannot under* Btand, however, how it is that the popularcandidate, Captain Morris, who polled 144-:---votes against 103 recorded for the other three candidates, should have been so indifferent ob - to have neglected the courtesy invariably observed (of returning thanks to supporters) » by all candidates all over the world who - happen to be in the vioinity of the place * appointed for the declaration of the poll. It • may be that ho was unablo to attend ; but in any case an explanation is required. Mr - Nome appeared to feel the position, and' represented him as well as could be expocledb —I am, &c, EIiECIOB.Tauranga, January 18, 1876.

TO THE EBITOEr Sib, — I was much' surprised at Captain*'. Morris's absence 'from the official declaration of the poll to-day. '1 he weather was certainly^ disagreeable, but not so bad as to prevent i him coming a distance of about' three milep. . To say least of it, it appears to < me a very^. poor return indeed to the. Tauranga. voters who supported him,^-I am, &0.,. A LAtje'Moeeisite. Tauranga, January -18, 1 1876.

TO THE EBITOB. Sib,— By a notice posted at the Government Buildings that the declaration of the poll -i would take place to«day, I left my home, over six miles away, to attend, and : was very disappointed. I expeotod Captain Morris <o-> thank me, one of the 144 voters polled. I lost on that day a day.,B werk for the purpose of giving my vote fop-hira. I would like him to say where he was.— I fivn, &0., A Votbe.
