THE COMING CONTEST.

TC -THE EDITOR Sni,—l think every impartial elector who attended the meeting at the Temperance Hall on Saturday night must have left impressed with the idea that Captain Morris possessed the qualities requisite to adapt him for legislative duties. This is a matter too often over* looked by constituents. There is no axiom more absurd than the one bandied about at election times, “ Measures and not mon>” The reverse should be the cry, for if men of sound principles, with the ability to advocate them, are not returned to our Parliament, how can we expect just and equitable laws to emanate therefrom. It is of the utmost importance that we of the North Island send the ablest men we can get to represent us next session, as the question will there and then have to bo settled as to how the Government of New Zealand shall bo carried on. It is impossible the partnership us hitherto existing can bo perpetuated. It is not a matter to us of Separation or Unity,' but it is,are we to bo equal partners as regards representation ancT revenue if we remain united ? or shall our liabilities be equitably adjusted according (a expenditure and assets if separated ? Seeing then that we want what I believe we fehall attain in Captain Morris, it is for the electors to decide whether they will be represented by a thoroughly independent and able man or otherwise.— I am, ic., Ah Eeecioc.
