W. S. Watt has issued an address to the electors of Wanganui, announcing himself as a local candidate. H. Pharazyn does not retire in his favour as had been stated.

Named, Tuesday Evening. An inquest was held to-day on the body of Ernest Augustus Weber, aged 17, son of Charles Weber, Provincial Engineer, who met his death under melancholy circumstances. Deceased was a cadet clerk on the railway ; a gun belonging to Miller, the manager, was left loaded in she ticket office; another cadet, named Webber, was playing with the gun, and deceased was showing him how to fire (neither knowing the gun was loaded) ; the gun went off and shot Weber dead on the spot. The jury returned a verdict in accord* a nee with the evidence, adding a rider to the effect that the culpable and prevalent practice of persons leaving loaded fire-arms in places accessible to others is highly dangerous. Turnbull, M.P.C., auctioneer at Timaru, has consented to stand against Bruce and Teschemaker. Ho is a strong Abolitionist, opposed to squatters, and has democratic) opinions. The Duke of Edinburgh immigrants are rapidly finding engagements, though some are very unsuitable. Great complaints are made as to their treatment on board. Captain Mosoy brought his wife with him in defiance of the regulations in force since the Cospatrick disaster. Cabin passengers say they have been fed on immigrants’ stores. The latter received short allowance. Tho immigrants were sent to Tirnaru six hours after the ship anchored at Lyttelton, and no inquiry was made. Dunedin - , Tuesday evening. Councillor Isaacs moves in tho Municipal Council tonnorrow a motion that tho membeu bo paid two guineas a sitting tho same as the members of tho Harbor Board. A similar motion is tabled for in Port Ohalmer’s School Committee.
