A CORRECTION.
TO THB BDITCH, SlB, —Permit mo to correct through your valuable columns an error which appeared in the letter of your Opotiki correspondent on the 16th instant. Any one reading thia letter would infer that I proposed that the proper authorities should be petitioned to oblige the steamer to deliver the mail at Ohiwa regularly under any circumstances. This would be absurd, and was by no mean* what I intended to convey. I simply proposed that the contractors should bo obliged to forward the mail overland when the Ohiwa bar would be unfit to take ; or* failing this, that the proper authorities should bo petitioned to employ the subsidy now given to the Rowena in estabhshiog a weekly overland communication between Tauranga and Opotiki. Some month* since tenders were called for this service, and I am reliably informed that no less than three tenders were forwarded from Opotiki. Nothing, however, has since been beard about the matter. Perhaps you can state the reasoo why the matter was dropped,—-I am, &0., H. W. Pkot,
