We understand tliat intelligence lias been received in Auckland by the last mail tliat the Bov. Father Hickey is likely to bo ArchbLbop Choke’s successor as the Catholic Bishop of Auckland. Father Hickley is well known in the colony, having been on a visit to the different parts of it about six years ago when collecting subscriptions for the enlargement, improvement, and building chapels in portions of Ireland. He is a man of considerable experience, distin b iubjß 1 ability, and an eloquent prea< 1 u IL ippomtrnent is likely to giu go r d itisfaction, and from what jsliimui 1 1 him previously, his onerous dutiis will bo discharged in a manner not only creditable to himself, but with benefit to his own people, The administrative duties of the diocese are, and have been for some time past, satisfactorily conducted by tho Very Bov. Father Fynes, of Parnell, The arrival of the next ’Frisco mail is likely to confirm Father Hickey’s appointment,
