TOWN BOARD.
A mkktixo of the above Board was lu'ld at Mr Bradley’s office on Thursday morning*, the BOtli ult. Present: Messrs Norris (chairman), Conway, and Cook.
The minutes of last meeting having been road and continued and correspondence approved, The Chairman requested that permission might bo given to himself and Mr Jordan to make arrangements to procure a proper stone to mark the permanent levels .of the town, there being no stone tit for the purpose procurable in the district. It was accordingly decided that a plan should bo submitted to the Board at the next mooting, the cost of the stone not to exceed £5. Relative to letting the upper nozzle of the town pump, members decided not to accept a sum of loss than i‘s per annum for its rent. The Chairman brought forward the question of clearing away the briars from Durham street, and it was carried that the work should he performed. A petition was read from the residents in the neighbourhood of Grey street (generally known as illow street) asking that the formation of Grey street might he considered by the Board. The matter was held over until a full meeting of the Board. The engineer’s estimate of the cost of making a pathway along the Devonport road, and from the new church to Sixth Avenue was road. The estimate appeared to the chairman to be very
low, and the matter was postponed pending the re-consideration of the estimate.
The Chairman drew the attention of members to the wharf store being monopolised by some persons to tho detriment of others, and a letter was read from Mr Commons, proposing a plan by which the present difficulty might be obviated. It was agreed to accept tho proposal made by Mr Commons.
