TAUTRANGA FIRE BRIGADE.
A meeting- of tlie above Brigade was held on Tuesday night last at the Masonic Hotel. Business —geneial Mr W. IF. Bennet occupied the chair. Mr Bradley acted as Secretary pro (cm. Tho minutes of last meeting were road and confirmed. dho Secretary, by direction of tho Chairman, read the followii g REPORT : “In pursuance of the resolution passed at {.lie last meeting, your Committee caused a list to bo prepared of all persons who were willing iu siib.-ci ibe towards a fund for purchasing the requisite plant and materials. d hey have been sojar successful, having altogether an amount of £3G on tho list, and, no doubt, wore a systematic canvass carried out, more would bo obtained, but your Committee think that quite sufficient has been subscribed to enable them to put tho Brigade on a euro footing, and commence operations in such way as this meeting may think necessary. The first thing that appears to be required is a Treasurer, and the Committee recommend that a gentleman be elected by tho members for this purpose, and also a Secretary and Collector, whose duty it will be to collect the subscriptions according to the list, and hand tho same over to the Treasurer, who will open an account in tho Bank to the credit of the Brigade. As soon as the subscriptions a»- e collected your Committee would advise another meeting of the Brigade for the appointment of executive odicers. and for tho purpose of adopting such rules and regulations as may be adopted at such general meeting, and in the meantime your Committee would recommend that the various insurance oilices be written to, informing them of tiie steps that have boon taken, and asking for their co-operation and support.” The report was adopted. TREASURER.
Mr David Asher proposed, and Mr Downey seconded, the nomination of Mr Lee as Treasurer to the Brigade. Mr Lee acceplod the office, and returned thanks for the compliment;. SECRETARY AND COLLECTOR. On the motion of Mr Lee, seconded by Mr Shaughnossy, jun., Mr Bradley was appJintcd Secretary and Collector. general. '['he Chairman said that 23 names already appeared on the list o 1 membership, iio thought number forming the Brigade should bo limited. Some discussion hereupon ensued, when it was proposed by Mr K. .Scott, seconded by Mr Sims, that tlie number of members be 25. A conversational discussion then took place regarding the necessary plant for the Bi igado. Mr Lee thought it would be desirable to get all the plant possible in Tnnmnga. He belumui in keeping all the money he could in the, place. ihe Chairman instructed the iJcerotary to write to the the J auranga luwn Board asking for monetary assistance in initialing the Brigade? Mr Leo pro postal, and Mr Asher seconded, that the meeting adjourn until next Tuesday evening, which was carried, as alto a cordial vote ol thunks to the Chairman. 'i he meeting then -'ejmrat ed.
