Latest Parliamentary. Wilungtos, Friday Night. In the House of Representatives to-day Mr Bunny presented a petition, in favour of Mr Vogel’s amendment of the Licensing Act, with over 1,500 signatures. Mr Fox presented a petition from Christchurch in favour of existing law. Several new clauses were added to the Imprisonment for Debt Abolition Bill, providing for imprisonment for debt in certain cases, and providing that imprisonment doss not wipe out debt. Ihe Bill was passed. At the adjourned debate the New Zealand Forests Bill was withdrawn. Yesterday afternoon, in reply to Mr W- Kelly, regarding the opening of the Gisborne Post Office on Sundays, Mr Vogel said he had already had the matter brought under his notice. Ha was endeavouring to arrange that steamers should not call there on Sundays, but if necessary that they should arrive and leave on that day the post office would be kept open for two hours. In the House of Repesentativea re Judge Chapman, committee got an extension of time to the 14th to bring up reports. Judge Ward is on bis Way up to be examined. Another new bill has been introduced by the Government, to make better provision for construction of works below high water mark. The Estimates were again gone into this afternoon. Postal and telegraph, £147,508 10s ; and Customs, £40,957 17s 2d, were passed without discussion.
New Zealand Steam Shipping Company. At tbe sale of the New Zealand Steam Shipping Company’s steamers Mr John Martin made the only bid, £55,000. The company bought them in for £75,000. Mr Ef. W. Penny’s monthly auction sale takes place to-morrow, Saturday.
