HONOUR TO WHOM HONOUR IS DUE.
TO THE EIHTOB. Sru,—ln yours of the 20th I read in connection with the fire that occurred on the morning of the 13th the sincere thanks of Messrs Young and Thompson (the sufferers by the fire) were given to Sergeant Mason and one or two others forthoir promptness in appearing on the scene and working for the preservation of property. I may state our respected Sergeant did not arrive ah the scene of the fire till the store was completely in flames, and past entering, bo eonaequoutly could not, have assisted in saving much of the property. I noticed several who rendered great assiatonoa immediately the fire caupht the store, but I did not aee their names even mentioned.—l am, &e., Faik Plat. Opotiki, Juno 29.
