Ik 1861 the belt was won by Ensign Brighton, Auckland Rifles ; in 1862, by Volunteer Samuel Holt, Nelson Rifles j in 1863 by Volunteer Nathaniel Morse, Nelson Rifles; in 1864, by Lieutenant W. T. Owen, Wanganui Cavalry, who was tied by Ensign Humphries ; in 1866, by Color-Sergeant D. L. Christie, East Taieri ; in 1867, by Corporal John Chisholm, West Taieri ; in 1868, Color-Sergeant W. Taylor, Dunedin Scottish ; in 1869, by Lieutenant W. Goldie, Port Chalmers Naval ; in 1870, owing to the disturbances in the North, there was no competition for the belt; in 1871 and 1872, by Captain Wales, Dunedin City Guards ; in 1873, by Lieutenant Hoskin, Thames; and 1874, by Captain Hamlin, W a iuku.
