Amongst late arrivals hero were Sir Jam,-a and Lady rergusson. They wtro received in state by the Muons, with songs of welcome, dancing, the well known Taupo guide conducted' his .Excellency and suite to the hot mineral baths cleverly and conveniently arranged by him lor the accommodation of 'touri-ts. It. is to bo regretted that his Excellency was not shown several extremely interesting places, which most tourists evince groat anxiety to bpo. Tho guide and other local residents hove given tho following names to tho places in question :—Thu Crows Nest, the Witobos’ Cauldron, ij, g JJ 0!1> the Alum Spriug, the Sulphur Spring, Eooke’a Cascades. lam ignorant »a to whether his Excellency is indifferent in regard to strange sights, or whether tho person who undertook to conduct Sir James to tho places deemed to ho curious at Taupo was ignorant ot tho natural woudora of tho district.
