DISTRICT PRIZE FIRING.
The firing for the district prizes commenced at Tauranga this week, in accordance with announce, ment from the officers commanding the several corps. MILITIA. The first set fired yesterday with the following results : —Captain Tunks, 40 ; Ensign Hill, 44 ; Private Qrey, 44; Private H. Orapp, 35 ; Private Penny, 40. The second set will fire this morning at the Government butts, commencing at 9 a.m. TOLtTNTEEB COKP3. The Tauranga Light Horse would have competed on Thursday last, but, owing to the threatening state of the weather, the firing was adjourned. Yesterday the first set of the Tauranga Rifles met at the butts at 9 a.m., when the following scores were made:—Lieutenant Samuels, 15; Sergeant Burrowes, 62 ; Private J. Wriglav, 54; Gravatt, 42 ; Stewart. 34 ; Rolfe, 33 ; Boo'th, 21 (retired at second range) ; Herbert, 14. This morning the second set will compete at the same and place.
