NEW GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS, TAUKang a. ' We have examined the plans of the new Government offices, which, if carried out, will be a mndsome addition to the town. The facade is 10o_ feet m length, of two stories in height having a projecting wing at either end. It f 8 of the Italian order of architecture, ornamented with pilasters, string courses, and bold overhanging mdrancT PO Thi UPOnCant ( ileV6rß - Therear « entrances. The mam entrance is by an ornamental porch in the centre of main front; the other two in the centre of each end elevation. The plan contains accommodation for the several Governmental departments. Entering the building by the main entrance is a large vestibule, with a parage running longitudinally the whole length of building, terminating with the two side entrances bemre named. On the left front are three rooms for occupation by the Defence Department on the opposite side of passage are three rooms,'one formative Court, 31ft x 20ft, stores, and private office ; on the right front are three rooms for the telegraph department ; and on the opposite side onr Sag ° J 9 the Magistrate's Court, 31ft x .Oft and 23ft in height, lighted ad;nf V 0 W ; ndow8 > . Wlth two private rooms adjoining, for magistrate and clerk. Oppo« site the vestibule are the stairs leading to the upper floor, communicating with a corridor running longitudinally the whole length of the building and lighted by a window at each end On the left front, over the Defence Department, are three rooms for the Public Works, consisting of apartments for draughtsman, clerk’s and contractors rooms. On the opposite aide of the corridor, and over the Native offices, are three rooms tor surveys and stores. On the right, over the 1 e < griph Dej. a tin mt, are thsec wms, viz,, map mom, private office, and draughting ; on ihe opposite side of the corridor are two rooms for magistrate and stores. On the ground floor the two end wings are connected by a covered way or verandah, connecting the Magistrate’s Court with the Native Court. There will be eight stacks of chimneys, and a fireplace in every room. The height of the building from the ground lino to eaves is 2oft, and the whole will be castd externally with feather-edge boarding. Each

Mr Samuels proposed, and Mr Wriglev seconded, that the Secretary bo instructed to supply Mr Norris with a copy of Mm clause in question am. Mr Norm bo informed that the' Board have nothing whatever to do with the formation or expense of private cesspools.
SKW MEMBER. Xhe Secretary then read Mr 11. McDonald's resignation as a member of the Board, in consequence of ms leaving the district. The resignation was accepted in duo coarse. Cn the motion of Mr Can way, eooonded bv Mr Thomas Angler Mr Norris was unanimously elected a member of she Board, vice Mr McDonald, resigned. ’
GEKERAt. A euro of £5 per annum was allowed to tho Secretary for the use of his premises for the meetings ot the Board.
Ihe following letter was road from Captain Fraser. -- Grahamstown, 22nd January, 1874 Booth, k.-q., Secretary Tan range, Highway W — Sir - —In answer to your letter o! the Ibth instant, forwarded by Mr Norris T have the honour to inform you that 10t'57, section 1, is not my property, it being leased by mo from the Church Mission Society. As this Society is noted for its liberal dealings with its tenants and neighbours, I have no doubt they will at once tall into the views of your Board. But as lot 57 aoea not itself need draining, I must hold tho Board and Society liable for any damage done to to® premises on said lot by their operation e . I am, &0., Vv . Fraser.” WHABJ LA MV.
