CAPTAIN TUNKS IN REPLY.
TO TRS EDITOR,
.-Mil,— ln your issue of Saturday last I notice in your report of the proceedings of the Resident Magistrate » Court, in the appeal ease against town rates, Mr Norris is made to »av that the chairman of Iho Board bad dinttnclly stated that, he should not. appear in Court. In answer to this c,uirge, I beg to state that such a thought never entered my mind, aa I fully intended to be there, atm told him eo several times; and had 1 known toe case was to bo brought before the Court that day, although very ill at the time, I should certainly have been present and opposed him, a n the rates ho objected to were reduced to the amount he agreed to accept before the Board, on ho day of appeal. And with regard to the muddling state of the roll, I think the muddle must have been in his brain, and not in the way the roil has been prepared. In answer to the charge of “ Vox Populi," 1 beg to state that 1 am assessed at very nearly 50 per cent, more than previously.—l am, &c., m , T - TrjtKß. To I apa, December 2, 1873.
