TOWN BOARD.
A meeting- of the Town Board wag held at the Secretary’s office on Tuesday last. Present Captain Tanks (chairman) and all the members. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A C<'MPT. AI NT. A letter from Mr W. H. Floyd was read complaining that his written notice of appeal against the rating of his dwelling house, on the Beach Road South, for the sum of £350, had not been laid before the Board on the day appointed for hearing. The Secretary explained that after receiving the letter in question he had understood from Mr Floyd that he intended to appoint an agent to appear in person on his behalf The Secretary was instructed to write to Mr Floyd explaining the matter, and the subject dropped, THIVATB HOAD. Mr Watson, by letter, applied for some assistance towards the formation of a road to his proparty, near the Cameron Rond. He would be willing to finish the track at ttie same rate as the cost estimated by the Engineer. The Secretary was instructed to write to Mr Watson that having more important work on band the Board would be unable to grant his request for the present. BEACH ROAD SOUTH. Abetter from contractors read drawing attention to alteration made in line of front after the contract was signed, and claiming £5 for extra labour, also £5 for work done in connect ion with footpath. After a short consultation Mr Wrigley proposed, and Mr McDonald seconded, “ That the Board Ufc* a professional opinion as to the extra work
done, the matter to bo brought before the Board at next, meeting.” STATISTICS. The Chairmen referred to a b-tier be had received from Messrs Reed and Br< •tt, pronriet >r» of the Auckland Almanac, requesting the Board to furnish certain statistics about rho district He (the Charman) would confer with tbo .diairman of the Country Board and oihvr gentlemen on the subject. Mr E. G. Norris, as agent for the Church Missionary Society, gave mv ice that at the next sit i tug of Justices he intended to appeal against the -aring of sections 105, 107, Fnd 108 Ti-e Secretary was directed to wide to Mr Norris stating that the Board had already made reductions upon the same. Mr Samuels said ho would like to be retained for the defence if the case were heard. Ho would charge i.o fees, DOG COLLARS. The Secretary said the dog collars would probably arrive from Auckland by next steamer, FINANCE. Notice of £SO having been paid to the credit of the Board from the Provincial Treasurer was rend, being final payment for Beach Road extension. The Charman very properly directed attention So the dangerous practice in vogue of digging holes in the sand for ballast on the so* wad, and trusted that masters and owners of vessels would discontinue such practises for the future. Mr Conway proposed that notice to that effect, be served upon masters of vessels trading in this harbour. There being no seconder, the proposition lapsed. TOWN LIVE LB. Mr Samuels gave notice that he would, at the nest meeting, propose that some steps be taken to have the levels of the town made. He referred to the fea-fui at.de of the swamp land tit. the rear of the Masonic Hotel, which was likely to breed disease, and trusted something would be done forthwith, ns necessary to the health, and even affecting the lives, of the inhabitants. The meeting thou adjourned.
